BROSTOKYO is a Tokyo business built around a simple idea: make health more approachable. Since opening in Iwamotocho in 2016, we have explored different ways for exercise, food and a place to spend time to become part of ordinary life.
Those activities may look like separate businesses. They share one purpose: to make what we offer accessible beyond a gym membership or a scheduled workout.

More than one way to belong
A café gave people a reason to visit without planning to exercise. Coffee, a meal or a conversation could be enough. The point was not to make every visitor a gym member, but to create a place that could matter to people in different ways.
Our food service carries that idea beyond the building. Takeaway and delivery let people enjoy meals developed at BROSTOKYO without joining the gym—or coming to it. Food is not simply an introduction to another service. Someone who only orders lunch is using BROSTOKYO in a way we value.
This thinking has also shaped the service itself. We began a salad subscription in 2018 and, in 2021, redefined it as a service independent of gym membership. Making food a regular part of someone’s day meant removing a condition they did not need.
Everyday needs can open unexpected doors
In 2024, we introduced an independent retail operation reselling Costco products in smaller quantities, with round-the-clock self-service. It was not an official Costco store or partnership. This was another way to connect with the neighbourhood through an everyday errand.
During its opening period, some nearby residents told us they had not realised there was a gym here. It was a useful reminder: being physically close does not necessarily make a business feel relevant. This past initiative reflects our continuing search for different points of connection.

The format changes. The purpose stays.
Today, 30-minute personal-training sessions and a workspace within the facility address another barrier: fitting exercise around the rest of the day.
Our recent chickpea option applies the same thinking to food. Rather than prescribe one correct meal, we offer another base people can enjoy: beans as a substantial part of the dish, with their own texture, protein and fibre.
Rising food prices in Japan form part of the context. At our shop, adding choices is one way to respond to costs without treating price increases as the only answer. The aim remains the same: something enjoyable and practical enough to choose again.
Conversations about what comes next
We welcome media enquiries and conversations about business collaboration, including franchise development, grounded in this approach.
